   4 availability of version 1.7.1 of Tahoe-LAFS, an extremely
   5 reliable distributed storage system.

   8 "provider-independent security"—meaning that not even the
   9 operator of your storage server can read or alter your data

  22 WHAT IS IT GOOD FOR?

  24 With Tahoe-LAFS, you distribute your filesystem across multiple
  25 servers, and even if some of the servers are compromised by
  26 by an attacker, the entire filesystem continues to work
  27 correctly, and continues to preserve your privacy and
  28 security. You can easily share specific files and directories
  29 with other people.

  31 In addition to the core storage system itself, volunteers have
  32 built other projects on top of Tahoe-LAFS and have integrated
  33 Tahoe-LAFS with existing systems.

  35 These include frontends for Windows, Macintosh, JavaScript,
  36 iPhone, and Android, and plugins for Hadoop, bzr, mercurial,

  41 Software, erasure coding, and principled engineering practices
  42 make Tahoe-LAFS safer than RAID, removable drive, tape,

  46 there are no known bugs or security flaws which would
  47 compromise confidentiality or data integrity under recommended

  55 Tahoe-LAFS. Clients from this release can write files and
  56 directories in the format used by clients of all versions back

  59 all versions since v1.0. Servers from this release can serve
  60 clients of all versions back to v1.0 and clients from this
  61 release can use servers of all versions back to v1.0.

  64 of Tahoe-LAFS will be actively supported and maintained for
  65 the forseeable future, and future versions of Tahoe-LAFS will
