  18 released September 23, 2010 [1].

  20 v1.8.1 is a stable bugfix release correcting a number of minor
  21 issues. It also includes a modest performance improvement in
  22 downloading, and a fix for a security issue involving HTTP

  26 WHAT IS IT GOOD FOR?

  28 With Tahoe-LAFS, you distribute your filesystem across
  29 multiple servers, and even if some of the servers fail or are
  30 taken over by an attacker, the entire filesystem continues to
  31 work correctly, and continues to preserve your privacy and
  32 security. You can easily share specific files and directories
  33 with other people.

  35 In addition to the core storage system itself, volunteers
  36 have built other projects on top of Tahoe-LAFS and have
  37 integrated Tahoe-LAFS with existing systems, including
  38 Windows, JavaScript, iPhone, Android, Hadoop, Flume, Django,
  39 Puppet, bzr, mercurial, perforce, duplicity, TiddlyWiki, and

  43 Software, erasure coding, and principled engineering practices
  44 make Tahoe-LAFS safer than RAID, removable drive, tape,
  45 on-line backup or cloud storage.

  48 there are no known bugs or security flaws which would
  49 compromise confidentiality or data integrity under recommended

  57 Tahoe-LAFS. Clients from this release can write files and
  58 directories in the format used by clients of all versions back

  61 all versions since v1.0. Servers from this release can serve
  62 clients of all versions back to v1.0 and clients from this
  63 release can use servers of all versions back to v1.0.

  66 series of Tahoe-LAFS will be actively supported and maintained
  67 for the forseeable future, and future versions of Tahoe-LAFS
