   4 availability of version 1.6 of Tahoe, the Lofty Atmospheric

   7 Tahoe-LAFS is the first cloud storage technology which offers
   8 security and privacy in the sense that the cloud storage
   9 service provider itself can't read or alter your data. Here is

  15 This release is the successor to v1.4.1, which was released
  16 April 13, 2009 [1]. This is a major new release, improving the
  17 user interface and performance and fixing a few bugs, and
  18 adding ports to OpenBSD, NetBSD, ArchLinux, NixOS, and embedded
  19 systems built on ARM CPUs. See the NEWS file [2] for more

  22 In addition to the functionality of Tahoe-LAFS itself, a crop
  23 of related projects have sprung up to extend it and to
  24 integrate it into operating systems and applications.  These
  25 include frontends for Windows, Macintosh, JavaScript, and
  26 iPhone, and plugins for duplicity, bzr, Hadoop, and TiddlyWiki,

  32 Version 1.6 is fully compatible with the version 1 series of
  33 Tahoe-LAFS. Files written by v1.6 clients can be read by
  34 clients of all versions back to v1.0. v1.6 clients can read
  35 files produced by clients of all versions since v1.0.  v1.6
  36 servers can serve clients of all versions back to v1.0 and v1.6
  37 clients can use servers of all versions back to v1.0.

  39 In addition, version 1.6 improves forward-compatibility with
  40 planned future cap formats, allowing updates to a directory
  41 containing both current and future caps, without loss of
  42 information.

  45 version 1 series of Tahoe-LAFS will be actively supported and
  46 maintained for the forseeable future, and future versions of
  47 Tahoe-LAFS will retain the ability to read and write files

  63 encryption, Free/Open Source Software and careful engineering
  64 make Tahoe-LAFS safer than RAID, removable drive, tape, on-line
